Carrousel Club SA Inc. "Supporting All Gender Diversity" Established 1985
This Web site
Has been established to promote our club and encourage membership also to provide a significant resource of information about gender difference.
We support all gender diversity, Male to Female transwomen, Female to Male transmen, Intersexed and Cross Dressers.
Activities and Meetings.
The Carrousel Club has a set agenda of monthly meetings, as well as other activities, such as BBQs, dinners, movies, picnics, or participation in other community events. The venue in which the group meets has a relaxed atmosphere that is enhanced by the informal cafe style setup.
Meetings are held regularly at a near city location on the first Friday evening of each month. To ensure it has not been moved or cancelled, you should ring or email to RSVP.
Members move around throughout the evening, chatting within different groups, and helping themselves to tea and coffee from the kitchen that opens on a self-help basis. Each meeting begins with an announcement of upcoming events and club related news.
When first attending the group, members are often nervous, yet at the same time experiencing a sense of relief in finding a group of like-minded people. It is at these social events that the transgendered person is able to gain the confidence to develop their identity. This may be in the very nature of the activities held, or through interaction with others. Members are able to offer each other support and advice on issues of concern, such as approachable medical practitioners, retailers or information on gender reassignment. This in turn allows for the participation in a life that otherwise has not been allowed and/or is often restricted by lifting a great mental burden and allowing those concerned to have at the least a little more control over their lives.
Additionally it is a time for the non-transgendered partner to gain an understanding of another part of their partner that they previously did not know, or to seek support from other partners in the same situation.
Counselling.
The Carrousel Club can provide recommendations for suitable counsellors if required. See a committee member for details. Partner support is also available. We can often put you in contact with a partner, just for a chat, or for information.
Funding.
The Carrousel Club is self funded, with money raised through yearly memberships of $35 per member or concession rates of $25 for students, pensioners or unemployed, with membership falling due on the 1st of February each year.
Other funds are raised through special events and raffles these monies raised covers the cost of printing, purchase of assets, phone calls etc.
A $5 door fee applies for all attending club nights which covers costs for supper and hot beverages.
In kind, support comes in the form of the provision of a meeting venue within a state government funded building.
Structure.
The Carrousel Club is incorporated and has a committee who are elected at the annual general meeting in February each year.
All members of this organisation and its committee are voluntary. Membership to the Club is on the basis of being transgendered, or a family member or friend of a transgendered member, and the members come from varying age groups.
The group is welcoming of new members, but for the promotion of security of current members, an interview process is undertaken when an approach is made to the club from a prospective member.
