Is there a cause?

There is no definitive answer, however, professional opinions express several possible causes, including pre-natal hormonal influence, mental perception about one’s gender, social influences, as well as psychiatric possibilities

Is there a cure?

Gender confusion is not an illness. Many people who experience gender confusion seek counseling and medical assistance for the emotional distress, anxiety or depression that can result from social stigma, shame and isolation that are associated with gender difference.

Is transgenderism / transsexuality new?

History records that transgenderism has existed across a diversity of cultures in human history, each of which have had differing attitudes towards gender diversity. Some cultures have even considered it a great blessing.

What are the legal ramifications?

It is not illegal to be transgendered in Australia. A Transgender Movement is growing in Western countries, which fights for the rights of transfolk.

Is gender identity related to sexuality?

Gender and sexuality are independent of each other. Sexual identity is just as diverse in the transgendered population as in the non-trans population.
